“The Cobbler” Copyright Troll Loses Appeal in 9th Circuit

Let’s see why the 9th Circuit agreed that an IP address, alone, is not enough to allow a bittorrent lawsuit to proceed.

So-called “Copyright Trolls” have been filing lawsuits by the thousands, alleging that defendants have used file-sharing programs like Bittorrent to infringe on their content.

Among them are Malibu Media, famous for filing over 5,000 cases, a record number; Strike 3 Holdings, a copycat of Malibu but representing different studios, and Cobbler Nevada, a holding company set up to manage the rights to the Adam Sandler movie “The Cobbler”.
